Technical Information

Material description
ModakBoard is composed of a special mix of mineral and glass fibre mesh, the mix is non toxic and contains no asbestos, no formaldehyde and no toxic chemicals.
Appearance of ModakBoard
Generally either white or grey with one smooth side and one textured.
Edges can be square or tapered to meet requirement end use.

Applications
ModakBoard has the qualities of timber and can be supplied in timber veneer finishes (special orders only), but still has no combustibility to 800ºC and no flame out at 1200ºC.
The product has a very wide range of uses for residential, commercial and industrial buildings, schools, hospitals, Government & social housing, utility buildings etc.
Internal applications: internal walls, ceilings, floor sub base, tile backer, counter tops, kitchen furniture, built in wardrobes.
Wet area applications: bathrooms, shower recess, kitchen - suitable for any wet areas or humidity prone areas. ModakBoard will not degrade in water or flood conditions it remains inert and can simply be re plaster set and repainted.
Exterior applications: weatherboarding, lining or decking (meets AS/NZS 3959 BAL Regulation).
ModakBoard is ideal for the replacement of degraded plasterboard areas in renovations, maintenance repairs and external use in weatherboard and similar linings.
ModakBoard can be painted, papered, tiled, rendered or veneered (timber appearance fire retarded type veneer recommended)
Safety
Use in fire prone areas or where fire safety is critical, ModakBoard will not burn, will not combust at 800ºC and has no flame out at 1200ºC.
The CSIRO has completed testing of ModakBoard to Australian standard ratings and has issued a Group 1 fire rating under BCA ( Building Code of Australia) A2. 4 and C1.10a section 3(c) standard AS/NZS 3837:1998 at 50Kw/m2 irradiance. (CSIRO Report No.FNK 9471 Assessment NK 6016 . No.1278 July 2009)
ModakBoard is 8 to 10 times stronger than “Gypsum” type plasterboards.
Mould and mildew does not absorb into ModakBoard making it ideal for use in areas of high humidity when mildew, mould and other similar conditions exist (bathrooms, shower recess etc.).
Pests & Weather
ModakBoard is made from a fibre composite mix and so is impervious to termites and insects.
ModakBoard will not degrade in water from floods or similar conditions and unlike plasterboard, ModakBoard has zero water absorption when sealed correctly during installation.
